Real Emotional Trash

Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks latest album, Real Emotional Trash, is coming out soon and is a great album that carrys on the notion that Malkmus is Indie Rock. This album is almost jam band like with its long guitar solos and big sounding drum riffs behind the crunching guitar. Hopscotch Willie has moments where it almost sounds like a Doors interlude, followed by classic Malkmus nonsensical refrains, “Do a little hopscotch, a willie willie hopscotch”.

In my opinion there are 2 stand out tracks. The track Real Emotional Trash is an epic 10:09 in length and most resembles Pavement in sound. With 3 minutes of lyrically rambling, followed by 3 minutes of guitar jam out, followed by 3 minutes of just a great combo of the 2 previous segments of the song. Well worthy of being the albums name sake.

Baltimore is the first single that I heard out there on Sirius Left, its another guitar driven long song. This is available online HERE

There is a third track, We Can’t Help You, that could have been a great top song but it has a real annoying Chorus Refrain that doesn’t fit the song. Why did he do this? Oh well, the annoying refrain isn’t enough to ruin that song for me.

This is a strong 4 Shenkeroos album from Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks.

This does make me miss Pavement — good song.
